Coaching and Mentoring International’s commitment to coaching
standards began in with the formation of the organisation. Sponsoring
and running the International Coaching Summit enabled us to engage
a wide range of coaches, academics, coach training providers and
other interested parties to contribute substantially to the ongoing
debate about the development of standards across the emergent profession
of Coaching and begin dialogue on Mentoring.
Following this Summit, and ongoing interest and contribution to
the standards debate, Coaching and Mentoring International (formerly The UK College of Life Coaching) were invited to join the Standards Sub-Group
of the European Coaching and Mentoring Council. Though this medium
we have continued to contribute to the research and development
of competencies and standards to which coaching professionals should
expect to work.
Coaching and Mentoring International has also been engaged throughout
the government sponsored ENTO project which is working towards
setting National Occupational Standards for Coaching and Mentoring,
which will apply to NVQ and SVQ awards across the UK.
Once these standards are set, and regulations for the profession
exist, Coaching and Mentoring International will embrace regulation.
We are confident that the level at which we are training and developing
coaching meets, if not exceeds, what these standards will be. As
a result, coaches trained through Coaching and Mentoring International's training programmes are unlikely to need to undertake
any additional training to meet regulatory standards which might
be introduced.
