Your
commitment
As a full member of Coaching & Mentoring International you agree to:
- Reflect regularly on your learning and experience
- Review your current knowledge and skill level
- Keep your professional skills current by
- Engaging with the debate about best practice in the pursuit
of excellence
What
is CPD?
Knowledge about and understanding of the coaching intervention
is growing on a daily basis as more and more evidence-based
research is undertaken. CPD for the practitioner, is the
conscious updating of this knowledge and understanding in
order to engage in continuous improvement of personal competence.
Hence CPD is a commitment to being professional, keeping
up to date and seeking to improve your personal performance.
CPD
means taking control of your professional development. You
can keep pace with developments in knowledge and understanding
whilst monitoring your own requirements. To begin with you
focus on your learning needs and identify areas where there
is scope for improvement and development.
Questions to pose yourself can include:
- What is my current knowledge?
- What level of experience do I have?
- What are my current capabilities?
- How do I assess my current performance?
- What limitations am I aware of?
- How can I overcome these and improve my performance?
- What new knowledge/skills do I want to acquire?
- What sources of information and guidance are available
to me?
- What do I need to do to access these resources?
The answers to these questions and others that you ask yourself
will provide you with the structure for an enriching CPD
programme, namely reflecting, reviewing, planning and learning.

The
CPD portfolio
The CPD portfolio has been formulated to offer you a simple
process with which to construct your personal CPD programme
and to record it effectively. Electronic records will make
the central internal verification of portfolios a straightforward
procedure. Coaching & Mentoring International will select a random 10% of all
portfolios for review on an annual basis.
Additional
benefits of keeping a CPD portfolio
Apart from acknowledging personal achievements which builds
your confidence in your professional ability, maintaining
an up to date portfolio is useful when preparing a CV for
prospective clients if requested.
When
will I be asked to provide evidence of CPD?
When your membership is due for renewal, you need to present
an electronic summary of the credits that you have accumulated
in the previous year. This can be e-mailed to membership@cmiexcel.com.
Your entire portfolio may be requested
as part of the internal verification process.
