My involvement
with Coaching & Mentoring International originated
from work undertaken by one aspect of the coaching organisation
and Carr Hill 11-18 High School.
The beneficiaries were a group of 16, Year 10 pupils who
undertook the MAGIC coaching course during the Autumn Term
2004.
The coach involved aimed the sessions at developing the
self-esteem, motivation and confidence of the of these
14/15 year olds pupils.
The methods of coaching employed certainly initiated success
in terms of academic and personal progress.
The pupils who had previously portrayed an anti-school
culture and were underachieving academically, are now displaying
a much more positive outlook.
This is manifested by their behaviour and actions, both
in and out of school. GCSE results are on target and there
is a desire to become involved in all school events, including
residential visits.
From this introduction to the benefits of coaching, I
was invited to spend time during Summer 2005 at Coaching & Mentoring
International in Wolverhampton.
This gave me the opportunity to met and speak, formally
and informally, to coaches who brought with them knowledge
and experience from a whole range of areas. Further to
this, I witnessed presentations highlighting how individuals
and organisations had benefited from coaching.
It was quite easy to understand from the organisational
skills and the knowledge of the presenters why coaching
was leading to massive benefits. Indeed, I came away with
ideas from coaches in business organisations that I intend
to implement in school.
I found the whole experience enlightening and came to
realise that the overall positive ethos together with the
belief, commitment and enthusiasm of the coaches could
only lead to success for the recipients.
Not only is it my impression, but, I also believe that
I have the evidence in organisation to show that those
who
undertake aspects of the MAGIC coaching programme develop
as individuals and become closer to fulfilling their goals.
